S&S Cycle Supports American Flat Track’s NBCSN Broadcasts in addition to posting Contingency Offerings

1DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (April 11, 2018) – Following a season of significant success, where support of the Indian Motorcycle Wrecking Crew helped garner a 1-2-3 season finish in AFT’s premier class in 2017, S&S Cycle has pledged additional backing to American Flat Track and its 2018 championship series.

As the legendary V-Twin performance company celebrates its 60th anniversary in 2018, S&S has not only renewed its partnership with the Indian Wrecking Crew and reigning champion Jared Mees (who won the AFT season-opener at Daytona as well as round number two in Atlanta on April 7), but will back American Flat Track’s NBCSN weekend broadcasts.

Additionally, S&S Cycle will offer a generous race and championship contingency bonus package of over $80,000 to qualifying racers who use S&S Cycle custom exhausts on their Indian Scout FTR750s, Harley-Davidson XG750Rs, or Kawasaki Ninja 650s.

“Racing is the very heart and soul of the many accomplishments and innovative products S&S Cycle has delivered over the past 60 years,” said David Zemla, VP of Marketing for S&S Cycle, Inc. “This passion for performance drives innovation from our designers and engineers, ensuring we deliver on our promise of Proven Performance.”

Jared Mees Retakes Points Lead with Rolling Wheels Half-Mile Victory

2Last time out, at the Lima Half-Mile presented by Indian Motorcycle, Jared Mees failed to make the Main Event — a race he promoted himself — after twice jumping the start during his Semi race. Adding insult to injury, he lost his AFT Twins presented by Vance & Hines championship lead in the process to rival Bryan Smith (No. 1 Indian Motorcycle Racing backed by Allstate Scout FTR750).1

On Saturday night July 8, in front of another packed house at Rolling Wheels Raceway Park in Elbridge, NY, Mees obliterated all challengers aboard his No. 9 Indian Motorcycle Rogers Racing Scout FTR750 en route to claiming his fifth checkered flag of the 2017 campaign – and with a near five-second margin of victory.

Mees was forced to deal with rival Sammy Halbert (No. 69 Estenson Logistics Harley-Davidson XR750) on the race’s opening lap. The two banged bars as they jostled for the inside on Lap 1, with Halbert diving into the lead heading into Turn 3. Mees squared up the turn and slotted back underneath to reacquire the position by the completion of the first lap. The three-time Grand National Champion continually worked up his advantage from there, steadily stretching it out before finally taking the win.

The victory marks the 25th of Mees’ career. It also saw him complete an in-season Grand Slam with triumphs across all four disciplines (TT, Short Track, Mile and Half-Mile) in 2017, with eight races still remaining on the calendar.

Now back in control of the title fight, Mees said, “(Lima’s) behind us. That was my mistake, my fault, and I needed to come back and do exactly this. I had two long weeks to think about my mistake.”

Sammy Halbert posted his second runner-up finish of the season, and Brad Baker (No. 6 Indian Motorcycle Racing backed by Allstate Scout FTR750) picked up his seventh podium result of the year but had to work for it in the end. A seemingly lonely third was made considerably less when Baker was joined on his rear wheel by Jeffrey Carver Jr. (No. 23 Carver’s BBQ Kawasaki Ninja 650) late in the contest.

Brandon Robinson (No. 44 Harley-Davidson Factory Flat Track Team XG750R) made it two Harleys inside the top five, edging Lima winner Briar Bauman (No. 14 Zanotti Racing Kawasaki Ninja 650) by 0.119 of a second for fifth.

Smith endured his worst finish of the season in seventh. He relinquished the points lead to Mees as a result, and now trails his rivals by eight points (202-194). After opening the year red hot with four wins, a second, and a third in the season’s first six races, Smith finds himself in something of a cold streak – at least by his lofty standards. In his last four outings, he’s tallied up results of fourth, third, sixth, and seventh.

In AFT Singles Shayna Texter (No. 52 Richie Morris Racing Honda CRF450R) continued to stamp her authority on the AFT Singles title fight with a wire-to-wire victory at the Rolling Wheels Half-Mile.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Jan. 10, 2017) – American Flat Track proudly announces an exclusive television partnership with NBCSN for the 2017 season. All 18 rounds, from the season-opening DAYTONA TT to the American Flat Track Finals in Southern California, will air in one-hour, tape-delayed telecasts on Thursday nights throughout the summer and fall.

Entering its 64th consecutive season, American Flat Track is the most historic form of American motorcycle racing and 2017 marks the dawning of a new golden era for the sport. The series boasts two diverse and highly-competitive classes and is headlined by powerful, twin-cylinder motorcycles in the AFT Twins class, with spirited single-cylinder machines battling it out in AFT Singles.

“American Flat Track is America’s original extreme sport and NBCSN is the perfect platform to bring it back into the limelight,” said Michael Lock, CEO of American Flat Track. “We’re delighted to be partnering with NBC Sports Group, one of the most respected sports media organizations in the world. This partnership represents a huge milestone for the sport and a goal that we have been working toward for a long time.”

With nearly 85 million subscribers, NBCSN is the Home of Motorsports in America, providing coverage of NASCAR, IndyCar, Formula One, Mecum Auctions, Lucas Oil Pro Motocross and now, American Flat Track.

“We’re thrilled to add American Flat Track to the best motorsports portfolio in American media,” said Jeff Macaluso, Senior Director, Programming, NBC Sports Group. “We’re excited and proud to be a part of the resurgence of this historic series.”

NBCSN’s coverage of the 2017 American Flat Track season begins in July, kicking off 18 straight weeks of high-intensity American Flat Track telecasts, expertly produced by NASCAR Productions, LLC and highlighted by flag-to-flag race coverage of both classes. The shows will include exclusive features and editorial content telling the story of the world’s elite dirt track motorcycle racers as they battle for glory, while cutting-edge technology, including the latest in onboard cameras, will allow viewers to experience the pinnacle of dirt track motorcycle racing like never before.

American Flat Track will debut inside Daytona International Speedway on a one-of-a-kind race course built on the famous tri-oval at the “World Center of Racing.” The DAYTONA TT will serve as the first battleground for the great American war brewing between Harley-Davidson and Indian Motorcycles, marking the first time the big American factories have competed head-to-head on the race track since the 1950s.

In addition to the 18 primetime premieres, NBCSN will re-air each of the shows the following week, which will also be available on NBCSports.com and the NBC Sports app. FansChoice.tv, a cornerstone of American Flat Track’s digital strategy, will provide live streaming coverage for every round of the 2017 season.

Additional information, including the details about the on-air commentary team and complete television schedule on NBCSN, will be released as it becomes available.
