John Kay and Steppenwolf Bring Heavy Metal Thunder to the Sturgis Buffalo Chip®

1Iconic motorcycle rock band to bring Chip fans back to the dawn of motorcycle culture as it’s known today.

Sturgis, SD – Motorcycle and music fans will have the chance to see true living legends at the Sturgis Buffalo Chip this August when John Kay and Steppenwolf bring their heavy metal thunder to the Wolfman Jack Stage on Friday, Aug. 10. Steppenwolf changed the rock ‘n’ roll landscape and the world of motorcycling forever. Their songs featured in the biker culture classic “Easy Rider” became synonymous with riding and rebellion. The official announcement video can be seen here: www.BuffaloChip.com/BANDS.

Steppenwolf is the original biker band and is credited with spawning an entire genre of music when singer John Kay coined the term “heavy metal” in the lyrics “heavy metal thunder”. The band’s music gave the world of motorcycling the impetus for many a road trip with anthems that include “Born to be Wild” and “Magic Carpet Ride.” Classic hits like “Rock Me,” “The Pusher” and “Jupiter’s Child” became engrained in the hearts of bikers everywhere.

STURGIS-BUFFALO-CHIP-STEPPENWOLF-740x400“When these guys said ‘Get Your Motors Runnin’, they inspired a movement and became the soundtrack for bike nights, garage sessions and hangouts for generations,” said Rod Woodruff, President of the Sturgis Buffalo Chip. “It just doesn’t get any more authentic than John Kay and Steppenwolf on the largest stage in motorcycling. They are the real deal. This will be the biker event of the year.”

The headlining performance by John Kay & Steppenwolf is the most recent of three huge names to sign on to perform at the Buffalo Chip in 2018. Eric Church is scheduled to perform Wednesday, Aug. 8 followed by Kid Rock on Thursday, Aug. 9. Many more world-class bands will be announced soon.

In additional to musical entertainment, the Buffalo Chip TT American Flat Track race will take place in the amphitheater on Sunday, Aug. 5. The annual concert and event series, known as the “Best Party Anywhere®,” will begin on Friday, Aug. 3 and run through Sunday, Aug. 12, 2018. HARLEY-DAVIDSON AND KRAWIEC SECURE NHRA PRO STOCK MOTORCYCLE CHAMPIONSHIP

3Krawiec’s Fourth Championship is the Ninth Title for the Harley-Davidson Screamin’ Eagle/Vance & Hines Team2

POMONA, Calif. (November 11, 2017) – Harley-Davidson® Screamin’ Eagle®/Vance & Hines rider Ed Krawiec locked up his fourth NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle championship today by qualifying for the Auto Club NHRA Finals at Auto Club Raceway, giving the team nine of the past 14 NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle world championships.

Krawiec will guide his Harley-Davidson® Street Rod™ competition motorcycle to the starting line for Sunday’s elimination rounds with an insurmountable points lead over his closest rival heading into the last race of the 2017 NHRA Mello Yello Countdown to the Championship playoffs.

“This championship was won by the entire Harley-Davidson® Screamin’ Eagle®/Vance & Hines team,” said Krawiec. “We are a group of individuals who are never happy if we are not winning, and we come to work every day with that goal in mind. It’s so hard to win just one Countdown race against this very competitive field, and to win four of five is just amazing. This is a very gratifying championship.”

The Street Rod competition drag bikes are based on the Harley-Davidson® Street Rod production motorcycle, an agile middle-weight powered by the liquid-cooled High Output Revolution X 750 engine tuned for maneuvering through traffic and congestion.

Krawiec closed out his title run in style, charging to the top of the qualifying order with a 6.781 elapsed time (ET) in the third round of qualifying on Saturday. Krawiec started the weekend with a 150-point lead in the Pro Stock Motorcycle Countdown standings and with bonus points earned in qualifying holds an unsurmountable 156-point advantage heading into Sunday elimination rounds.1

Krawiec scored a big win at the NHRA Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis on Labor Day weekend, and that momentum propelled him into an incredible run in the Countdown playoffs. Krawiec was seeded second for the Countdown and won the opening round at Charlotte on September 17 to take a points lead he would never relinquish as he won four of the five Countdown events leading up to this weekend’s NHRA Finals in Pomona.

“We had a real struggle in the middle of the season trying to get our new motorcycles to work the way we wanted, but I really think that stretch made us better,” said Krawiec. “It caused us to look at every detail of our bikes and our tuning, which ultimately strengthened our program. Everything came together at the right time with the win at Indy.”

Krawiec, who previously won championships in 2008 and in 2011-12, joins five-time champion Harley-Davidson® Screamin’ Eagle®/Vance & Hines rider Andrew Hines and six-time winner Dave Schultz as the only racers to claim the title more than three times. Heading into the Pomona elimination rounds, Krawiec is third on the career wins list with 43, trailing Schultz (45) and Hines (47). Krawiec made his NHRA debut in 2004 and joined the Harley-Davidson Screamin’ Eagle/Vance & Hines team in 2007. He has won each of his four championships on Harley-Davidson competition motorcycles.

Harley-Davidson and Vance & Hines Motorsports created the Harley-Davidson Screamin’ Eagle/Vance & Hines team in 2002 to compete in the NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle division. In 2004 the team was the first to win the NHRA title with a V-Twin-powered motorcycle.

The Harley-Davidson Screamin’ Eagle/Vance & Hines team is led by Vance & Hines Motorsports owners Byron Hines and Terry Vance and crew chief Matt Hines, a three-time Pro Stock Motorcycle champion.

Tickets go on sale Saturday, November 11th at 10AM CT at www.rotrally.com. ZZ TOP a/k/a “That Little Ol’ Band From Texas,” lay undisputed claim to being the longest running major rock band with original personnel intact and, in 2004, the Texas trio was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Of course, there are only three of them – Billy F Gibbons, Dusty Hill, Frank Beard — but it’s still a remarkable achievement that they’re still very much together after more than 45 years of rock, blues, and boogie on the road and in the studio. Las Vegas BikeFest #VegasStrong

Las Vegas: The 2017 Las Vegas BikeFest held October 5 – 8, was the next big event scheduled to take place in Las Vegas after the tragedy at the Route 91 festival. 55
“We knew that people from here in Las Vegas, across the nation and all over the world started to question whether or not to come to the rally, and if the rally was even going to take place.  As a team we came together and decided that we were not going to allow this individual, who did not value life,  to keep us from standing strong and making a statement. This type of incident would not force us to cower or stay away.  So we moved forward with the rally.  We hoped it would allow those from all over to come out for 4 days of fun and entertainment, as well as show the love and support for everyone in Las Vegas”, stated Mindi Cherry, Event Manager.
Unfortunately the tragedy did affect the rally’s attendance but over 30,000 attendees who came were there with much love and support not just for the rally but for the city of Las Vegas and the first responders.  There was a feeling of “we all stand together” during the rally.  Attendees, vendors, staff, entertainers, volunteers, first responders…..all felt “Vegas Strong”.
Besides making the decision to move on with the rally  the BikeFest team wanted to give back and help with the Las Vegas Victims’ Fund that was started by Clark County Commission Chair, Steve Sisolak on Go Fund Me.  A special Vegas Strong t-shirt was designed and sold at the rally.  All proceeds from the sale of the    t-shirts went to the Fund.  Last week, Las Vegas BikeFest made a donation of $4,000 to the Las Vegas Victims’ Fund from the t-shirt sales. 56
