At the 2020 Sturgis Motorcycle Museum Hall of Fame Breakfast, Ryan McFarland,
founder and chief enthusiast officer of Strider Bikes, presented the 2020 Strider
Inspiration Award to moto-journalist Marilyn Stemp. As the title sponsor of the breakfast,
Strider Bikes awarded its fourth annual Strider Inspiration Award as part of the
recognitions at the Breakfast, which was held during the Sturgis Rally on August 12th. It
was followed by the inductions of the Museum's 2020 class of Hall of Fame nominees.
For her part, Stemp said, “I was an early adopter when it came to helping to advance
the All Kids Bike program, it just made so much sense from the start. Getting more kids
on bikes at an early age is a natural link to developing more motorcycle riders in the
future.”
And that’s a major initiative of All Kids Bike, a program of the Strider
Education Foundation. They aim to teach every child how to ride a bike as part of
kindergarten P.E. class.
Stemp and her late husband, Dennis, founded IronWorks Magazine in 1989. She now
edits Iron Trader News online and consults with companies in motorcycling. In addition
to sponsoring a school in Belle Fourche, SD, Stemp started the Tiny Strider Custom
program as part of the Flying Piston Benefit, a charity organization she operates with
Jeff Najar of Horsepower Marketing. The Flying Piston Benefit unveils a new class of
Tiny Customs at a charity breakfast each year during the Sturgis Rally, held at the
Sturgis Buffalo Chip. Top name custom builders have participated and, in fact, there’s a
waiting list of interested builders.
The 2020 Class celebrated women riders and included: Savannah Rose, Lena Fairless,
Ashmore Ellis, Cris Sommer Simmons and JoAnn Bortles and Erin Sills for
WomenRidersNow. Hall of Fame artist and builder Ron Finch rounded out the group.
Said Stemp of being chosen for the award,“It’s always been my preference to work in
the background, so this honor was unexpected but very much appreciated.”
