Myrick Robbins Named Executive Director Of Sturgis Motorcycle Museum
Sturgis, South Dakota, April 27, 2016 – Time to Honor the Ride. Build the Legacy. The mission for the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum remains unchanged, however the means to achieve its lofty goals have gotten a boost as diehard motorcyclist Myrick Robbins has been named Executive Director, effective immediately. In addition to taking the Museum to the next level, Robbins will oversee the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum Hall of Fame’s 15th anniversary in June and preside over the induction of the Class of 2016 in August during the annual Rally.
“The Sturgis Museum belongs to everyone, but they have left me with the keys to take it for a joy ride,” says Robbins.”How great is that? For a lifelong rider who wants to live in a world filled with loud pipes, endless curvy roads and great conversations at the next fuel stop, this really is the opportunity of a lifetime.”
His infatuation with motorcycles started with a Honda CB450 Nighthawk. The Nighthawk helped him make it through high school and college with above average grades and a far beyond average social life. After graduating from Utah State University in Technology Education, Myrick bought his first Harley-Davidson as well as a Honda XR250 to make sure all his street and dirt needs would be met.
Since graduation, he has been an architectural drafting instructor at Bridgerland Technology College for the past 10 years, as well as organizing, managing and leading motorcycle tour groups under the banner of Chasing Thunder for six years. “This combination of professional expertise and passion for all forms of motorcycling make Myrick uniquely qualified for the Executive Director’s position,” explains Tigra Tsujikawa, Marketing & Development Director for the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum & Hall of Fame. “His wit and wealth of experience in managing a variety of situations are what clinched the deal for the board of directors.”
In his professional career Myrick has served as an office manager, an award-winning “Parade of Homes” designer, a scholarship committee chairperson, a playoff-bound high school soccer coach, a scout master and a licensed level 2 teacher. Somewhere along the line, he managed to find the time to run a V-Twin motorcycle dealership.
Some people pursue money or fame, but Myrick is more interested in chasing after making great memories, having great experiences and sharing those moments with others. “The ultimate goal is to create a unique national destination that honors the past, informs the present and inspires the future,” he adds. “Not to mention having some great rides and a heck of a lot of fun along the way!”
Everyone is invited to meet Myrick in person and honor the 2016 Hall of Fame inductees. The 2016 Sturgis Motorcycle Museum & Hall of Fame 2016 Induction Breakfast will be August 10, 2016 at the Lodge at Deadwood in Deadwood, South Dakota. The Class Of 2016
The 2016 inductees into the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum Hall of Fame represent every aspect of what makes motorcycling great. One of the most diverse groups ever inducted into the Hall of Fame, the Class of 2016 will be honored during the annual Rally on August 10, 2016.
Bert Baker – V-Twin motorcycle drivetrain innovator, businessman and patriot, Bert Baker is committed to using materials, labor, creativity, know how and grit born of America.
Jerry Covington – Whether it is on TV or the cover of virtually every biker magazine in the world, it is hard to miss custom builder Jerry Covington. What does get overlooked is Covington’s behind the scenes commitment to the motorcycle community, his selfless donation of time and resources to those less fortunate through has various charity projects.
John Penton – One of the most influential figures in off-road motorcycling in the world, John Penton developed a legendary brand of motorcycles that bore his name (better known as KTM today). He also founded Hi-Point, an accessory and distribution company that had 50% of aftermarket sales in the U.S. and set the mold for modern distribution powerhouses like Parts Unlimited, Tucker Rocky and WPS.
Gary Spellman – Using motorcycle as means to further charitable causes, philanthropist Gary Spellman has been quite effective in utilizing motorcycles to raise money for charities benefiting first responders and their surviving families. He has also brought major business owners into the family of motorcyclists as well as creating the Peace, Love and Happiness Charity Ride with fellow Hall Of Famer John Paul Dejoria.
Buddy Stubbs – Talk about being born into the business, Buddy Stubbs was raised in his father’s Harley dealership in Decatur, Illinois and has spent his entire life in and around dealerships, including opening two of his own in the greater Phoenix area. This year marks his 50th year as a dealer and more significantly an ambassador to the motorcycle lifestyle.
