We posted on social media from Flat Out Friday and the Mama Tried Show held last week in Milwaukee, but some things deserve a closer look. The floor was so crowded on Saturday it was impossible to shoot the show bikes. But thanks to that night’s after parties, Sunday morning’s traffic was less challenging when we went back to see the show bikes.
First a bit of background: Now in its fifth year, the Mama Tried Show, organized by Warren Heir, Jr. and Scotty Johnson, moved this time to The Rave/Eagle Ballroom after several prior venues. And the new place got great reviews from the crowd. What a cool space! Invited builders brought a wide variety of machines to show, powered by a plethora of powerplants and spanning platforms and design formats with abandon.
The other component of the weekend, Flat Out Friday indoor flat track races, were again run by Jeremy Prach. This was the second year for FOF and it was as much fun as ever. About 250 racers signed up to run in classes from Grom to Super Hooligan to vintage and inappropriate. Even a few kids took some laps! The compact track, covered in Dr. Pepper syrup for traction, challenged even the best riders and kept fans glued to the action.
If you missed it, don’t do that again next year. Meanwhile, get up to speed with our gallery of the races, the show and a few of the people who turned out to enjoy the good times.
