Briar Bauman and J.D. Beach to Represent U.S.A. in 2017 Superprestigio Dirt Track

2DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Nov. 24, 2017) – American Flat Track competitors Briar Bauman and J.D. Beach will represent the U.S.A. in the fifth international Superprestigio Dirt Track event in Barcelona, Spain, on December 16, 2017.

The prestigious invitations to Bauman and Beach come on the heels of news that recently crowned – and four-time – MotoGP champion Marc Marquez will not participate in this year’s Superprestigio event. Marquez, who’s won two of the four Superprestigio events (with American Flat Track star Brad Baker winning the other two), took himself out of contention for a third win recently due to the physical and mental wear-and-tear of the MotoGP championship. “I need some rest,” Marquez said recently, “and it’s time for other Spanish riders to win the Superprestigio!” Continue reading Briar Bauman and J.D. Indian’s Dirt Domination Continues

Indian Motorcycles and the Scout FTR750 continued their undefeated streak through the seventh race of the AFT season as Jared Mees edged out Sammy Halbert on the final lap of the Red Mile in Lexington, Kentucky, last Saturday. That first place finish ties Mees with fellow Indian rider Bryan Smith at the top of the points pole with 152 apiece, and continues Indian’s streak of securing at least two podium placements in each race this season.

Here’s the official release:

INDIAN RACING & SCOUT FTR750 REMAIN UNDEFEATED

LEXINGTON, KY (JUNE 5, 2017) – Indian Motorcycle Racing and the Scout FTR750 remain undefeated once again through seven races. Jared Mees’ first place finish now ties him with fellow Indian rider Bryan Smith at the top of the points pole with 152 apiece, and continues Indian’s streak of securing at least two podium placements in each race this season.

The Scout FTR750 and Indian Wrecking Crew proved resilient during the first race in which Indian was nearly knocked off the top position. Mees employed the strategy of mile expert Smith by drafting from second position only to pull a last second outside pass on the final lap to inch out Sammy Halbert by 0.013 of a second for the checkered flag. Indian’s Brad Baker and Smith duked it out throughout the race to finish third and fourth respectively.

“It feels good to get back on the top of the podium,” said Mees. “This has been a season of firsts for me – I was the first to win on the Scout FTR750 at the season opener in Daytona, which was also my first time winning a TT and a season opener, so it’s only fitting I’m the first to win here at the inaugural Red Mile and be tied for first with Bryan.”

Mees is now the only rider in the series with a perfect podium record intact on the season. Although tied atop the points standings, Smith holds the tiebreaker with four wins to Mees’ three. Baker, who took third at Red Mile, sits in fourth with 92 points, 17 points off third place.

“This streak is a testament to the incredible capabilities of the purpose-build Scout FTR750 and the modern day ‘Wrecking Crew’ we’ve assembled,” said Gary Gray, Vice President – Product Development for Indian Motorcycle. “Jared and Bryan are fierce competitors, and once again their rivalry is taking center stage this season.”

Indian Motorcycle Racing, backed by Allstate Insurance, will look to continue its incredible run as American Flat Track heads to the OKC Mile in Oklahoma City, OK, on June 17.

NEW HARLEY-DAVIDSON STREET ROD DRAG BIKES READY TO RACE AT ENGLISHTOWN

It’s been all about Indian on the dirt track lately but Harley-Davidson is putting in effort at the drag strip, too. Here’s info on their all-new NHRA Pro-Stock competition bikes being debuted this weekend.1

MILWAUKEE (June 7, 2017) – The Harley-Davidson® Street Rod will hit the drag strip this weekend when the Harley-Davidson Screamin’ Eagle/Vance & Hines drag racing team debuts all-new Street Rod-inspired bodywork for its Pro Stock Motorcycle competition bikes at the NHRA Summer Nationals, June 8-11, at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park, Englishtown, N.J.

Powered by the liquid-cooled High Output Revolution X 750 engine with suspension tuned for maneuvering through traffic and gritty urban streets and steeped in tough Harley-Davidson® Dark Custom styling, the Harley-Davidson® Street Rod inspires the sleek, menacing lines of carbon-fiber racing bodywork that will look right at home on the NHRA starting line.

“With its muscular stance, high-performance engine and hot-rod inspired styling, the new Street Rod motorcycle is the perfect vehicle to carry Harley-Davidson’s championship winning Pro Stock Motorcycle program forward on the race track and in the showroom,” said Scott Beck, Harley-Davidson Global Brand Director.

The new Street Rod competition bodywork was designed at the Harley-Davidson Design Studio in Milwaukee in collaboration with Vance & Hines Motorsport and was wind-tunnel tested in Indianapolis during its development.

“The Street Rod is a contemporary interpretation of American performance and Harley-Davidson design heritage. It’s a tough looking motorcycle with design cues that reflect hot rod and muscle car DNA,” said Brad Richards, Harley-Davidson Vice President of Styling & Design. “We wanted to create a new body that would not only be competitive on the track but also embodies the personality of the production Street Rod, which we think is a great tie in because they are both motorcycles with dynamic performance deeply rooted in their DNA. We particularly love the design of the fairing and the bobbed tail section because they truly identify the motorcycle. Whether it’s the race bike or the production bike, from 200 feet away you know it’s a Street Rod.”

In addition to the new bodywork, riders Andrew Hines and Eddie Krawiec will also be racing all-new chassis for the first time at Englishtown.

“The launch of the new Street Rod motorcycle was the perfect opportunity to give our championship winning drag bikes new bones,” said Harley-Davidson Screamin’ Eagle/Vance & Hines crew chief Matt Hines. “We used CAD and other digital tools to design a new chassis that minimizes weight while maximizing strength and rigidity. Track testing confirmed that the new bikes are aerodynamically sound and these new bikes run as great as they look with the sleek new body.”

The Harley-Davidson Screamin’ Eagle/Vance & Hines team will campaign the new Street Rod drag bikes for the remainder of the 2017 NHRA Mello Yellow Drag Racing Series. Krawiec, a three-time NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle champion (2009, 2011-12) currently leads the series with 306 points and scored a final-round win at the season-opener in Gainesville, Fla. Hines, a five-time NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle champion (2004-06, 2014-15) is third in the current season standings with 230 points.
