2015 AMA Land Speed Grand Championship at Bonneville Salt Flats to be held Aug. 29-Sept. 3

PICKERINGTON, Ohio — For many motorcyclists, outright speed is king. On Aug. 29Sept. 3 at the world famous Bonneville Salt Flats in Wendover, Utah, the fastest motorcyclists will compete at the 2015 AMA Land Speed Grand Championship to set national and world records.

“Few sports are as connected to one location as land-speed racing is to Bonneville,” said AMA Track Racing Manager Ken Saillant. “The name itself evokes an otherworldly sense of achievement — and that is what our racers strive for every year. Not only are they racing against others in their class for AMA National No. 1 plates, they are competing against the best of all time for a name in the record books.”

The Bonneville Motorcycle Speed Trials, the AMA Land Speed Grand Championship, is the premier motorcycle land-speed racing event in the world. This AMA-sanctioned event, which also includes Fédération Internationale de Motocylisme recognition, offers competitors the opportunity to clinch AMA national and FIM world records aboard machines from 50cc mini-bikes to 3,000cc motorcycles.

“We’re honored to host such a prestigious event,” said event manager Delvene Manning. “Bonneville is always an exciting challenge, not just for the racers, but for the organizers. For us, it’s a welcomed opportunity to run an event in a truly unique environment, where so much is on the line.”

Competitors will have the opportunity to ride the following courses (length subject to change based on conditions), based on their machines:

  • Basic course: 3-mile total run (a 1-mile approach, 1-mile timed, and 1-mile shut down)
  • Intermediate course: 5-mile total run (2-mile approach, 1-mile timed, and 2-mile shut down)
  • Long course: 8-mile total run (up to 3.5-mile approach, 1-mile timed and up to 3.5-mile shut down)
Contenders in a variety of classes will attempt to secure the absolute world record. However, Bonneville is known for offering a range of classes for participants. In addition to state-of-the-art, custom-built streamliners, numerous entrants will compete in a number of less-sophisticated categories that allow racers to strive for glory on the famed Bonneville Salt Flats.

Entry information, a detailed schedule, rules, classes and existing records are available at www.BonnevilleSpeedTrials.com.
