The wait is over for motorcyclists and music lovers who have been eagerly anticipating the Sturgis Buffalo Chip’s first band announcement for the Sturgis Rally’s 75th anniversary celebration in 2015. Fans have been flooding social media in recent months with the question, “Who will be performing at the Buffalo Chip in 2015?” The answer to that question is poised to surprise fans, as the Chip is revealing an unprecedented number of bands with its first announcement. This is only the first of many surprise announcements the public can expect from the Buffalo Chip in the coming months.
“People are very hungry to know who is going to perform at the Chip this year,” said Buffalo Chip President Rod Woodruff. “We usually announce one band at a time, but for this surprise first announcement we really wanted to hit home that the Chip is the Best Party Anywhere and burst out of the gates with a party band from each major genre: rock, hard rock, classic rock and country rock. This is only the start of what is shaping up to be the best rally yet!”
American hard rock band Five Finger Death Punch leads the list of megastars signed to appear at the Buffalo Chip this year. Both volumes of the band’s 2013 release, “The Wrong Side of Heaven and the Righteous Side of Hell,” hit no. 2 on the U.S. Billboard 200, and the albums collectively garnered four no. 1 hit singles. The multi-million-selling rock titans will take the Buffalo Chip Wolfman Jack Stage on Saturday, Aug. 1.
For those who prefer a little country with their rock, Brantley Gilbert will perform on Sunday, Aug. 2. Gilbert topped Country radio last year with his Platinum-certified single “Bottoms Up” and hit the Top 10 with “Small Town Throwdown.” Five of Gilbert’s singles have achieved no. 1 status, and he has garnered impressive album sales and amassed multiple music industry awards including the 2014 American Music Award for Favorite Country Album for his most recent project, “Just As I Am.”
Rock legends Def Leppard are the third in the list of musical heavy-hitters to be announced for 2015. The band will take the main stage on Friday, Aug. 7 equipped with its arsenal of party anthems including “Pour Some Sugar on Me,” “Animal,” and “Rock of Ages.” Def Leppard has sold more than 65 million albums worldwide over nearly five decades, which should leave no doubt for fans that the band is one of the most important forces in classic rock music.
Consistently one of the most requested bands in the history of the Chip, the quintessential Southern rock band, Lynyrd Skynyrd will perform on Tuesday, Aug. 4. Skynyrd boasts a collection of over 60 albums and sales topping 30 million worldwide. The band comes to the Buffalo Chip toting a deep catalog of universally known hit songs including “Sweet Home Alabama,” “Gimme Three Steps” and “Freebird.”
In addition to world-class main stage acts, many other performers will entertain crowds throughout the festival on the Buffalo Chip’s six showcase stages. Bands confirmed for these stages include The Living Deads, the Charlie Brechtel Band and Iron Cowgirl Missy, and many more will be announced in the coming months.
The concert series during the Largest Music Festival in Motorcycling will begin on Friday, July 31 and runs through Saturday, Aug. 8. The campground opens for camping on July 3. The Buffalo Chip is well known as the center of the rally and the original site for Sturgis Rally concerts due to the venue’s long history of presenting fans with the music industry’s biggest names and Best Party Anywhere. Concerts are free with camping. Passes for the momentous 75th Anniversary Celebration in 2015 may be purchased by calling 605-347-9000 or visiting www.buffalochip.com.
