The Red Baron is based on a 1947 Indian Chief engine in a 1927 Chief rigid chassis. Built in the 1966-67 Fall-Winter Season.
This was a bolt in installation with only a modification to the front mounts that sit on the shelf.A 16” wheel was installed with a
6.00 x 16” Good Year rear tire; this was first wide tire conversions.
The one piece drag bars, wide rear tire and low ground clearance give it a dragster look. It was easy to “smoke” the tire as the
side car gave stability out of the hole.
This motorcycle was purchased by the Dallas Police Department in September of 1963.
On November 22, 1963 this motorcycle was only one month old and on that day in Dallas Texas was the 13th in the procession escorting President John F. Kennedy. During that escort President Kennedy was shot and killed by Lee Harvey Oswald. There were 13 Motorcycles in total escorting the President of which the other 12 are in other Museums and private collections throughout the Country.
We have an area setup in the Newburgh Mall with some bikes for you to see. Come pay us a visit!
There are a few bikes you can sit on with side cars and trikes. You can also check out some of our historical Merkel and Indian bikes.
